(Data and Hard Drive)

Data Recovery
Graham can provide a physical (damage to the media or plastics) or logical (unable to access files on the tape) data recovery from virtually all backup applications and media types.

Examples of a data recovery service include:
  • Damaged or broken tapes
  • Heat, smoke, fire and water damage
  • Media Errors
  • Data residing after an EOF Mark (Overwritten Data)
  • Damage resulting from the tape drive
  • Reformatted/Erased tapes
  • Internal cartridge mechanism failing
  • Incomplete backups
  • Permanent errors residing mid file
  • Damage as a result of aging (past warranty)

Hard Drive Recovery
Graham can recover repair and recover inaccessible data from nearly all types of hard drive systems. Hard drive data recovery involves replacing failed components such as read/write heads, head assemblies, magnets and drive motors in a clean environment. In most cases, the recovery process involves restructuring of the data by examining the low-level data sectors and determining what fixes to filesystem structures are needed to get access to the data. Using highly sophisticated techniques and proprietary equipment and software, our engineers are able to fix and recover data from raw images of all operating systems.

Examples of hard drive recovery services include:
  • Hard disk failure
  • Failed components (read/write heads, head assemblies, magnets, drive motors, etc)
  • File deletion
  • Application crash
  • Computer viruses and worms
  • Damage due to a power failure or surge
  • Corrupt or missing critical file system structures
  • Drives that have been formatted
  • Partitioning or boot-up problems

Data & Media Destruction Services

After a major media or data conversion or copying job, you may be faced with many old tapes that need disposal. Graham can provide Media Destruction services with guaranteed security. All tapes can be completely degaussed before destruction and then disposed of in compliance with local environmental regulations. Some parts may also be recycled, Graham will provide a certificate of media destruction if required. All tapes can be completely degaussed before destruction and then disposed of in compliance with HIPAA environmental regulations as well. There are two types of destruction as shown below:

Data Destruction is often referred to as "Degaussing", or erasing the data from the physical tape. This process does not destroy the media itself, only the recorded data. Data Destruction, or Degaussing can be done at your site, or at a Graham Service Center. If completed at your location, Graham will provide all equipment and labor to complete the Data Destruction process.

Media Destruction This service destroys the physical media itself. Typically, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for a specific area frowns on simply "throwing tapes away" since they are not a biodegradable product. This action would also raise certain security questions in many of today's corporate auditor's minds. Therefore, Graham offers a Media Destruction Service whereby the media is destroyed and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. We also provide a "Certificate of Media Destruction" that meets most auditor requirements.
